Diploma of Veterinary Nursing (Dental)


Under the Federal Government Workforce Development Fund this is the only time a course of this quality will be offered at this subsidised price. There are limited places available at this one-off cost until 20th March 2012. This course is for experienced nurses who wish to up skill in all aspects of providing advanced dental support, thus increasing practice income through better dental care for their patients. You will be taught by Dr. David Clarke, who is a registered dental specialist, and he has designed the course to challenge each individual using online lectures and practical procedures performed in your own clinics and at organised workshops. There will also be opportunities to participate in procedures at his dental specialist hospital. Nurses with old Certificate IV Veterinary Nursing qualifications will be upgraded to the current units of competence as part of this Diploma and experienced nurses without qualifications will be offered recognition of prior learning opportunities for the Certificate IV units as part of the diploma qualification. Participants will undertake a Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) process, and then participate in workshops for the two Units of Competency (UOC) that Dr. David Clarke will be delivering: ACMVET503A Produce veterinary dental oral cavity radiographs ACMVET504A Provide veterinary dental nursing support for advanced veterinary dental surgery

ABOUT Dr. DAVID E. CLARKE,

BVSc, Diplomate AVDC, Fellow AVD, MACVSc Registered Specialist, Veterinary Surgery (Dentistry) David is a registered specialist in veterinary dentistry and is a Diplomate of the American Veterinary Dental College and a Fellow of the American Academy of Veterinary Dentistry. He conducts a clinical dental practice Dental Care for Pets at Hallam, Victoria. David teaches widely and has been a key note speaker at many events in Australia, Asia, the USA and Europe. He is the consultant veterinary dentist at Taronga, Western Plains, Adelaide, Monarto and Werribee Zoos. His clinical and research interests include oral health in the domestic pet population, in particular the reduction of plaque using dietary and chemical means; analgesic and antibiotic usage for dentistry; continuing dental education of veterinarians and nurses; and oral biology and dental disease in Australian marsupials.
