University of North Texas Spring 1, 2012 Intensive English Language Institute Week 6: February 2025

IELI Potluck Lunch Friday, Feb. 24, from 11:50 am - 1:10 pm, in the IELI Student Lounge. Do you have a special recipe you would like to share? If you want to eat at the Potluck, you must bring a dish of your own. The potluck lunches are always fantastic; sign up in Ambers office if you would like to participate! Game Night - Friday, Feb. 24, from 5:30 pm - 9:00 pm. Take a break from studying and enjoy a night of games and snacks with your IELI friends. Bring your family and friends!

Time: Monday, 5:00 - 7:00 pm and Thursday, 5:00 - 6:00 pm (plus 3 hours on Saturday, May 5) TOEFL iBT Prep Class for L5 and L6 Students Who is eligible?: Students who have successfully completed L4 Writing and Communication

What: Students will learn about the test format, review testtaking strategies, study specific language skills, and take practice Cost: $250 (textbook included) tests. They will meet three hours per week and receive Space is limited. Register in the Main Office (SYCM 204) by feedback on their performance. Monday, February 27, 5:00 pm. What is cheating? Cheating comes in many forms; in this culture, cheating is unacceptable in any situation. Be sure that you read the IELI Student Handbook so that you will know and understand the policy on cheating. Some examples of cheating are: Copying someone else's homework Allowing someone to copy your homework Looking at someone else's paper during a test or quiz Allowing someone to look at your paper during a test or quiz Looking in your books during a test or quiz Copying information from the internet and using that information in your work If you have any questions about cheating, please talk to your instructor!

D. Consequences of Cheating
What happens if you cheat? During your final exams this term and for all future exams, your instructors will have yellow cards and red cards. If your instructor gives you a yellow card, it is a warning about cheating; you should be very careful to keep your eyes on your own paper and to do your own work. If your instructor gives you a red card, you will receive a zero for the exam and you could be eligible for dismissal. What do you need to remember? Dont cheat! Be sure to do your own work so that you can learn and improve your language skills. You can do it! If you have any questions about this system, talk to your instructor!

Come check out some DVDs in the Computer Lab to practice English at home. We have Seasons 1-4 of The Big Bang Theory and many other TV shows and movies! Is the Computer Lab filling up too fast? Stop by and we will be happy to show you where other computer labs are located on campus. You will need to show them your Student ID Card.

In Spring II, IELI will go to see the musical In the Heights. A musical is a theatrical play that tells the story through singing and dancing. In the Heights is about immigrants moving to the US and adjusting to the American lifestyle. Can you relate to the story? This trip will be a unique experience. Only the first 50 people to sign up and pay $10 may attend. Sign up begins March 12 in Alissas office (SYMR 205). Go to bat for someone


Definition: help out and support someone Used in a sentence: Karina needed to enroll in a class at UNT, but she applied too late and was denied enrollment. Without it, she could not graduate, so Amber went to bat for her and Karina was allowed to take the required class.

CoMeTrY: this show is a fusion of comedy and poetry, bringing inspiration and humor. Join UPC, listen as we dance with the English language, and discover yourself as we laugh at human behavior. Wednesday, February 22, from 7:00pm - 9:00pm in the Silver Eagle Suite. The secret of finding jobs: Learn how to use the immigration process to your advantage when looking for a job. Friday, Feb. 24 at 3pm. This event is free but you must contact the ISSS to reserve your spot. You should email internationaladvising@unt.edu or call 940-565-2195 to sign up.

International Month is coming in April! International Month is a celebration of cultures and great global citizens. The International Welcome Center needs volunteers to help with the events and activities. They need IELI students to help with the Native Dress and Flag Parade, International Food Fair, World Cultures Fair and Market, International Dance Party, and more! If you are interested, you should attend the meetings on Wednesdays at 3:30 pm in SYMR 286. If you have questions, you can talk to Yunju in SYMR 286.
