Water Management Calculations

Water Run-Off

Land: acre House: 847 ft2 = .019444 acre Land without House: .48055 acre

Square Foot to Acre Conversions

Pre QL = CCFiA = (.2)(1.1)(2.0 in/hr)(.5 acre) = .22 ft3/sec Post House QH = CCFiA = (.85)(1.1)(2.0 in/hr)(.019444 acre) =.035ft3/sec Land QL = CCFiA = (.15)(1.1)(2.0 in/hr)(.48055 acre) = .158ft3/sec Both .036ft3/sec + .158ft3/sec = .194ft3/sec 2-7% slope: C = .15

Unimproved land: C = .2

Shingled roof: C = .85

C Coefficient Cf rainstorm factor; only one type of storm will occur every __ years. i rainfall intensity A area of land

Difference .22 ft3/sec - .194 ft3/sec = 0.026 ft3/sec

Wastewater Calculations
Gallons per Day (Liquid)
3 beds = (3 110 gpd) = 330 gpd

Gallons per Day (All)

330 gpd = .7x =471.42 gpd

Only 70% of the total amount of material is liquid, we need to add the other amounts.

Area Footage

Sandy/Loamy soil - .8gpd/ft2

= 589.28 ft2

Infiltration area = Wastewater flow rate hydraulic loading rate

Linear Footage
=294.64 ft 2 ft trench width
Trench Length = Infiltration area trench width

Number of Pipes Needed

  =5.89 ~ 6 pipes Pipes are 50 ft long

Total Width of Leach Field

(5 spaces)(10 ft per space) + (2 extra outer feet) = 52 ft

These calculations are applied for which the water tower supplies one house: the habitat house. Because the dynamic pressure lies between 20 psi and 80 psi, no pressure reductions/inductions are needed.

Above is an aerial view of the distance between the building site and the water tower. From this map, there is a total length of 3.12 miles worth of cast iron pipe.
