Purpose: To express student opinion on the ePortfolio graduation requirement. Whereas, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) will be assessing Clemson for reaccreditation in 2013, and Whereas, SACS requires institutions to identify college-level general education competencies and the extent to which students have attained them, and Whereas, the ePortfolio was originally instituted to assess general education competencies, and Whereas, alternative assessment techniques are in use by other institutions accredited by SACS, and Whereas, there is a general dissatisfaction with the ePortfolio among the Clemson student body, and Whereas, even after years of marketing attempts, there has been limited faculty buy-in. Therefore, Be it resolved by the Clemson University Undergraduate Student Senate assembled in regular session the following: That, the Undergraduate Student Senate wishes the ePortfolio graduation requirement to be removed as soon as is feasible, and That, the Undergraduate Student Senate recommends research be undertaken to determine the level of student support for either standardized testing or faculty collection of samples of student work in lieu of the ePortfolio.
