Bhopal Gas Tragedy is remembered as one of the ugliest industrial disasters that have ever taken place.

The gas cloud was close to the ground so children and short people suffered the worst since they inhaled higher concetrrations. Many people were trampled trying to escape. Thousands of people succumbed by the morning. There were mass funeral and mass cremations as well as disposal of bodies in the Narmada river. 170,000 people were treated at hospitals and temporary dispensaries. There were at least 200,000 children exposed. 2000 bloated buffalo, goats and other animals were collected and buried. Leaves ont he trees yellowed and fell off. Food and supplies became scarce because suppliers were afraid to deliver. Fishing was prohibited. 36 wards were tagged "gas affected" with a population of 520,000. 200,000 were below 15 years old, 3,000 were pregnant women. Stillbirths increased by up to 300% and neonatal mortality by 200%. Independent organizations recorded 8,000 dead in the first days, while others estimated between 10,00030,000. 100,000-200,000 are estimated to have permanent injuries. Acute symptoms: burning in the respiratory tract and eyes, breathlessness, stomach pains and vomiting. Causes of death: choking, reflexogenic circulatroy collapse and pulmonary edema.
