Prosecutors SIU Seizes Heroin, Arrests Two Men
TRENTON -- Mercer County Prosecutor Joseph L. Bocchini Jr. announced that a two-month investigation led by his Special Investigations Unit (SIU), under the command of Lt. Mike Novembre, concluded on Wednesday with two arrests and the seizure of $1,500 in drugs. Bocchini stated that Wednesday at approximately 9 a.m., his SIU assisted by the New Jersey State Police TEAMS Unit, the Mercer County Sheriffs Office and the Hamilton Police Department executed a search warrant at 33 Prospect Street in Trenton. Malik Abdul Alim and Michael Meyers were located in the basement apartment. A search of the apartment revealed a bag of rice in the bedroom containing approximately 150 decks of heroin. Digital scales and empty plastic bags were also located in the bedroom. Cash totaling $242 was found in Alims pant pocket and Meyers was in possession of a crack pipe. Alim, 67, who resides in the apartment, and Meyers, 48, of Summer Street, Trenton, were each charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession with the intent to distribute, possession with the intent to distribute within 500 feet of a park, possession with the intent to distribute within 1000 feet of a school and possession of drug paraphernalia. Both Alim and Meyers are being held at the Mercer County Correction Center in lieu of $50,000 bail each. Novembre stated that the seized heroin has an approximate street value of $1,500. Despite having been charged, every defendant is presumed innocent until found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. ###
