THE TARDY MAIDENS

at the start, when the number of employees was small, they work conscientiously enthusiastically. They had to fill out their time records by hand and put an entry in a time record book. However, when the number of employees increased from fifty to one hundred sixty due to the expansion of the functions of the office, several employees were habitually tardy. And worst of it all, their time records did not reflect that they were tardy. And so the management (although it was not clear who initiated the move) resorted to the installation of time/bundy clock to put a stop on habitual tardiness of employees.

this move (installation of bundy clock) received a strong resistance and opposition from the employees. For one, the employees were forced to report on time. If not, their tardiness will be recorded and corresponding sanctions will be imposed. Second, the use of time clock was only applicable for the subordinates and not the supervisors.

the situation was aggravated when sixteen employees were given memorandum of tardiness for the month of March for at least eight time to a maximum of twenty one times against the tolerable allowance of maximum of seven times a month. The said memorandum also pointed out that disciplinary actions will be instituted against them should they continue to be late to office. out of the sixteen employees, Lina Lazaro and Maria Manuel were openly indignant. They came to a point of shouting openly in the office and not even the director could pacify them. They alleged that there was inequality committed in as so far as using time clock is concerned since some employees were able to punch other's time cards. They further said that that is the price for them being honest - recieving memorandum.

Meanwhile, Lina went to the administrative assistant and pointed out how dishonest some people were, and that dishonesty server to be the best policy in the long run. But the latter had nothing much to say in the form of comment; so Lina went to the assistant director to relate her grievances and disclosed the dishonesty of some of the employees. The assistant director suggested to her to put her accusations in writing mentioning the individuals she were referring to. But Lina said she can not do that and instead a guard be posted near the clock to check on employees who punch other's time cards. But the assistant director insisted that she put her accusations in writing.
