PHOTOSHOP

LESSON 1
Bitmaps and Vectors: Photoshop is an image-editing application with a wealth of tools and commands for working on digital images or bitmaps. There are utilities for retouching and colour correcting . The bitmap image consists of a rectangular grid, or raster, of pixels- in concept, very much like a mosaic. When you edit a bitmap you are editing the colour values of individual or groups of pixels. Image-editing applications differ fundamentally from vector-based applications such as adobe illustrator or coral draw. In vector based applications you can work with objects that can be moved, scaled, transformed, stacked and deleted as individual or grouped objects, but all the time each exists as a complete, separate objects. Image-editing applications work with bitmaps. Bitmaps are created at a fixed resolution. When we enlarge a bitmap image the resolution suffers because no additional pixels are added during the process of enlargement. Pixels and Resolution:-

Pixels:- A pixel is the smallest element in a bitmap image such as a scan. Pixel is short for picture element. Resolution:Resolution is density of pixels in the image. This is measured in pixels per inch [ppi]. Higher the no. of pixels per inch, the resolution will be higher. Concept of colours:There are 2 types of colour models in photoshop. One is RGB model and the other is CMYK model. RGB model represents red, green and blue colours. This is important in photoshop because it simulates the way the human eye percieves the colours. CMYK model represents cyan, magenta, yellow and black. This is important because this model is used for printing colours. For using image in web based appications or multi media presentations RGB model can be used. If the image is to be printed, CMYK model should be used.
