The water cycle describes how water evaporates from bodies of water into the air due to heat from the sun, condenses into clouds as air cools, and falls back to earth as precipitation where it collects in rivers, lakes, and oceans to repeat the cycle. Water is evaporated from oceans and lakes by the sun, condenses into clouds as air rises and cools, and falls back to earth as rain or snow and flows into bodies of water to complete the continuous water cycle.

1. The sun evaporates water from lakes and oceans. 2. As the air rises, it cools. The water vapor condenses into tiny droplets of water. 3. The droplets crowd together and form a cloud. 4. Wind blows the cloud towards the land. 5. The tiny droplets join together and fall as precipitation to the ground. 6. The water soaks into the ground and collects in rivers and lakes. 7. The cycle that never ends has started again!
Use the diagram to identify the different parts of the water cycle: #1 = The Sun #2 = Clouds #3 = Evaporation #4 = Precipitation #5 = The Ocean
