Production Calculation

(1) Feeder Density

Feeder density = No. of feeders/ machine diameter e.g machine with 60 feeders in 30 inches diameter, the feeder density is 60/20 = 2

(2)

Production speed (rpm)

V (m/s) = (3.14 X 2.54 X machine diameter x rpm) /(60 X 100) e.g. machine diameter is 30 inches, rpm =20 rev/min. therefore, V = 0.79 m/s (Normal range is 0.8 -1.8 m/s)

(3)

Efficiency value

To compare knitting machine with different feeders number and production speed L = no. of feeders X rpm e.g 72 feeders and run at 25 rpm L = 72 X 25 = 1,800 courses/min

(4)

Pitch (measure the distance between 2 needles gap)

Pitch = 25.4mm/E (gauge)

Production Calculations
Assumed the knitting machine is running at 25 rpm with 60 feedrs and the fabric density is measured with cpi = 36. wpi = 27 (14.2 c/cm; 10.6 w/cm) and the fabric weight is 173 g/M2 . [1] Production in length per hour :

(60 feeders X 25 rpm X 60 min)/(36 cpi X 36 inches) = 69.4 yd/hr (63.4 m/hr) [2] The production in weight per hour given the finished width of fabric is 70 inches (1.78 meter) (63.4 m/hr X 1. 76 m X 173 g/m2 )/(1000g) = 19.5 kg/hr (43 lb/hr) [3] The production in area

63.4 m/hr X 1.76m = 112.9 sq.m/hr or 69.4 yd/hr X 70 in/36 = 135 sq. yr/hr

If the finished width is unknown, but the machine details are given, such as 30 inch diameter. 20 gauge, 60 feeders, then tile fabric width can be calculated as follows : Finished width = 30 in X Pi X 20 npi /27 wpi = 70 inches
