1. The standard we are covering is SSCG5. 2. Federalism is a division of power among a central government (national) & several regional governments (states). 3. Delegated powers are powers given to the national government by the Constitution. 4. Three types of delegated powers are: a. EXPRESSED POWERS b. IMPLIED POWERS c. INHERENT POWERS 5. Expressed powers are powers given to the National Government that are written in the Constitution. 6. Implied powers are powers not written in the Constitution but are suggested by the ones that are. 7. Inherent powers are powers that belong to the National Government because it is the government of a sovereign state in the world community. 8. Exclusive powers are powers that can be exercised by the National Government alone. 9. Reserved powers are powers that the Constitution does not grant to the National Government nor deny to the States. 10. The constitutional basis of reserved powers is the 10th Amendment. 11. Concurrent powers are powers that both the National Government and the States possess and exercise.
