Definition
A smart antenna system combines multiple antenna elements with a signal processing capability to optimize its radiation and reception pattern automatically in response to the signal environment.
SIGNAL PROPAGATION
Multipath- a condition where the transmitted radio signal is reflected by physical features/structures, creating multiple signal paths between the base station and the user terminal.
Cochannel Interference- occurs when the same carrier frequency reaches the same receiver from two separate transmitters.

CONCLUSION
The purpose of a smart antenna system is to improve the signal quality of the communication system through more focused transmission of signals while enhancing capacity of the channel.
