What is new?
In the past two months, many new and exciting things have happened at Stratton Leadership & MicroSociety Magnet School! The students have participated in several school-wide voting opportunities. They have voted on the name of our societys currency (Jaguars). They voted on the different designs of currency (created during Art class with award winning art teacher, Jill Lagerstam) for each Jaguar Bill: 1s, 5s, 10s, and 20s. The students decided and voted on a name for our society (Strattonville). To cap off the excitement, the Constitutional Convention, facilitated by Chuck Jackson, wrote our constitution, which was then ratified by the students. As a culminating celebration, all students, staff, parents, and community partners were sworn in as citizens of Strattonville by the Mayor of Champaign, Mr. Don Gerard!!! practicing their interviewing skills. On March 28th, students will attend the Strattonville job fair and rank their top three choices of agencies and or ventures. Shortly thereafter, those resumes and interviewing skills will be used April 2-3 with employers. With the ratification of the constitution, the next phase in the Strattonville political arena will be the primary and general elections of the offices outlined in the constitution. Those elected positions are President, Vice President, Chief Crime Stopper, legislators, and grade level governors. To help run the elections, Champaign County Clerk, Gordy Hulten, has offered the help of his office. Mr. Hulten graciously offered to create the ballots, bring voting machines, as well as the actual voting booths to Stratton. This generous partnership helps to ensure an authentic experience for the citizens of Strattonville. Experienced Event Planner Childrens Book Donations
