6th Grade Gwinnett County Honor Orchestra

March 2, 2012 Dear Orchestra Student and Parent, CONGRATULATIONS! Your child has been invited to participate in the annual GWINNETT COUNTY HONOR ORCHESTRA FESTIVAL, which will be held on Saturday, April 28th at Peachtree Ridge High School. Your child will have the opportunity to join other Gwinnett County beginning string players to enjoy the experience of rehearsing in and performing with a large string orchestra conducted by a highly qualified guest clinician. There is a $15.00 charge for student participation. The festival will begin at 9:00 am. Please plan on arriving 10-15 minutes early and report directly to your rehearsal room for seating, tuning, and special instructions. Three orchestras will rehearse during the morning and early afternoon and a public concert will be performed at 2:00 P.M. The concert will end approximately at 3:00 P.M. Student dress for the concert will be jeans and a Honor Orchestra t-shirt to be received the day of the festival. Each cellist and bassist will need to make arrangements to transport his own instrument to the festival. Each violinist, violist, and cellist will need to bring a folding music stand from home. Music stands will be provided for each bassist. Bass players must supply their own stool if one is used. Lunch for String Fling will be provided by Chick-Fil-A (included with the participation fee). An assortment of candies/snacks will be available for purchase during the breaks. To prepare for this event, there will be some afterschool rehearsals, here at Radloff MS in the orchestra room. It is highly recommended all students try to attend these special rehearsals because it will be the only time we work on these songs before April 28th. The dates for the rehearsals are listed below. Monday, April 9th: 4:30 6pm only violins & violas Tuesday, April 10th: 4:30 6pm only cellos & basses Monday, April 16th: 4:30-6pm ALL 6th Grade Honor Orchestra Students Monday, April 23rd: 4:30-6pm ALL 6th Grade Honor Orchestra Students
