Where can we find carbon?

Carbon is in every single living thing! Carbon is in the air, the soil, the ocean, and some rocks, too! Plants have quite a lot of carbon

3/4/12

How does carbon get into plants?

3/4/12

Its in the air in the form of Carbon Dioxide, or CO2 Plant leaves absorb carbon dioxide during photosynthesis so they can make food from carbon and water

A long time ago, before the dinosaurs, the world was covered in plants. This was called the Carboniferous Period.

3/4/12

After millions of years of plants growing and dying, huge deposits of carbon were formed. Over time, those deposits were buried If you dig deep enough youll find these carbon deposits from millions of years ago!

Its coal!
3/4/12

What do we use coal for? Energy! We burn coal for electricity But what happens to all that carbon when we burn coal? It gets released into the air!

And then plants take it from the air
