Over millions of years, dead plants deposited as coal became trapped underground. When coal is burned for energy, the stored carbon is released back into the atmosphere, where it can be absorbed again by plants, completing the carbon cycle.

    Its in the air in the form of Carbon Dioxide, or CO2 Plant leaves absorb carbon dioxide during photosynthesis so they can make food from carbon and water

    A long time ago, before the dinosaurs, the world was covered in plants. This was called the Carboniferous Period.

    After millions of years of plants growing and dying, huge deposits of carbon were formed. Over time, those deposits were buried If you dig deep enough youll find these carbon deposits from millions of years ago!
