The school will be designed for 350 students, K-6th grade. This is based on the size of the McAuliffe School, which is K-8th and has 450 students (about 50 students per grade). Assuming that the kids are put into groups of 15, there would be 24 groups. There is 1 small program sized space for each group, plus an extra six for circulation/socializing space/additional workspace. Four groups share one medium sized program space, and there are three additional for music, performance, and workshop spaces. Two large program spaces are shared for the entire school. There is an equal amount of poche/child-landscape space to open/adult-landscape space, which together take up about half of the site.

These specified program blocks were configured around axes (b) which were added to provide sight lines from within the building as a means of visual connection to the outside as well as for orientation purposes. A standard block that is the length of a small program block and 7 wide was used for circulation above, for movement between poche spaces (c). Where this raised circulation network is (green), a skylight will be installed directly above it, so that natural light is diffused before entering the learning spaces. Finally, the roof was faceted based on relative program heights and raising the skylights an additional 5 (d).
