Cody Kober EDU 5170 Teaching Philosophy 02/11/12 I decided that I wanted to become a teacher when I was a senior

in High School. Prior to my senior year, I had considered a profession in public communications because I thoroughly enjoyed class presentations and leadership activities. During my senior year, I recalled my hidden interest in history that dated back to my fourth grade field trips to the various historical landmarks around the Adirondack State Park. I also considered how excited I was in junior high school to learn about American History, and the interesting presentations my teacher supplied us with. By my junior year of high school, I was reading biographies from the American Revolution and World War II and scored very high on the U.S. History Regents. But it was not until the middle of my senior year when I began taking a computer course called, Applied Communications, that I realized I really enjoyed teaching. This course gave me the ability to research and document information about my home town with a video camera. After I created the video, I was asked to create a lesson plan and present my video and research to a junior high class. Standing in front of the twenty plus students and assessing them on my information gave me a thrill and I felt empowered knowing that I had just taught them something new. After being accepted to SUNY Plattsburgh, I decided not to pursue my Communication major but rather enter the BA/MST program where I can enjoy educating adolescents in the future.
