University of Hertingham- Administration Department

To: Mrs. A. Garner, head of Administration From: Faye Nicola Nugent Date: 23/02/12

Report into printed materials for top note award ceremony I have been asked to research three printed products for this event: posters, invitations for award winners work. 30 posters would be sufficient for the university site.

Requirements
Posters- should be designed by an art student and reflect the creative nature of the award winners work. 30 posters would be sufficient for the university site.

Invitations- should have a high quality feel to them, as this is the most prestigious award the department gives each year. There will be 40 award winners and 25 VIP guests.

The programme is only a running order and can be mass printed on A5 paper. 300 should be enough to cover the largest number of guests expected.

Print technology and costs

I have been asked to commission an arty and stylish poster for the music awards. the poster is going to be made by hand which means it is going to be more expensive, the letter press and linoleum carving are bold and stand out and are the best for the posters. The process involves a number of stages all done by hand. The printer starts by tracing the outline onto the line the outline is then cut out and sets in the printing machine then the ink is applied into the printer. the colour of the ink and the refills have to be changed for the printers next picture that came from a photograph the blue ink then overlaps the last design

that had been created in yellow ink which also made park of the design green which made the colours mixing but keeping most of the design blue which is still showing the outline and detail and is giving the design a layering effect. although this form of printing is more expensive it is eye catching and attracts the audience attention which is what is needed for this poster. next I have been asked to make a high quality invitations card for prize winners and VIP guests. the high quality is going to be printed which means it is going to be expensive because it takes a long period of time and there is a high quality of material used within the process. the process involves numerous stages that are done by hand and print. firstly it is started by the client deciding what layout and text they would want for the chosen occasion that they need the invites for. each individual metal template is placed for the invitation to come out nicely once that has been done the invitations are put into the printer and then you leave it and wait for the printing process to finish. once its finished the invitation is checked and decided whether or not everything is alright. it may have to replaced and moved. each letter that needs to be used are put on individually by hand.

Lastly I have been asked to commission a running order sheet for everyone who attends the occasion. which means the running order sheet made by being mass printed onto A5 paper and will then be photocopied, so it will be cheaper to make.

in summary each one of these methods will cost estimated...
