1. New York Stock Exchange runs on Linux

Red Hat announced that announced that a European branch of the the New York Stock Exchange 
(NYSE) has implemented its Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and Red Hat Network. NYSE 
Euronext is using RHEL for key components of its "mission­critical," high­speed financial trading 
environments, Red Hat said. 

NYSE   Eurotext   chose   Linux   due   to   its   greater   flexibility,   freedom   from   vendor   lock­in,   cost 
savings, and the ability to handle heavy workloads.

2. Fedora 9 Sulphur Released

Fedora Linux version 9, code named “Sulpher” is released. It has the latest packages and Desktop 
enhancements. It comes with a single DVD and tons of packages in the repositories. GNOME2.22, 
KDE 4.03, PcakageKit, EXT4 Support and updated other packages.

3. Mumbai City Buses run with Linux

Mumbai City buses uses Smart Card sell tickets. Passengers have to buy smart cards at the Bus 
Transport Offices at various costs. After entering into buses, they have to show their smart cards to 
the Billing computer. The buses are digitally transformed with Computers, Smart card readers, 
Wireless LAN, GPS, Preprogrammed Routing System. 

The entire system uses CentOS Linux and they handle 3 million rupees daily. The system is stable 
and secure. Mumbai saved 1.2 Million Rupees by choosing Linux.

4. Kanimozhi – Second month issue released

Kanimozhi,   the   online   Tamil   magazine   for   Free   Open   Software   is   released.   In   this   issue,   the 
following are the caching articles. PDF version is also available for download.

Unicode and tamil.
Wubi­ the Windows installer for Ubuntu Linux.
Gettext­ an introduction.
Redhat Pacjage manager­RPM­An introduction.

5. Nexuiz 2.4.2– 3D Shooting Game is released

Nexuiz reached its version 2.4.2 and released recently. It is a award winning open source First 
Person Shooting game. It is available for Linux, Mac OS and Windows.

6. Wikipedia, now a teaching tool
Wikipedia, is an online encyclopedia. The difference here is any one can edit the articles there. 
Around the world, people are always adding content to the wikipedia. It has over 10 million articles 
in 253 languages.

Now American universities ask students to write articles directly to wikipedia instead of submitting 
assignments and paper works. This makes the students to involve in the great effort of making 
wikipedia as collaborative workplace and growing encyclopedia.
