    LEGEND:
    Abbreviation T 1 2 3 P PT P1 P2 O H PO Meaning Thumb Index finger Middle finger Ring finger Percussive Percussive Thumb Percussive Index Percussive Middle Open Hammer Pull-Off Additional explanation String plucked (NOT slapped) Pluck with your index finger Pluck with your middle finger Pluck with your ring finger A muted, percussive hit. LEAVE finger on string to facilitate the next stroke. Do not hit through the string! A muted, percussive hit with the thumb A muted, percussive hit with the index finger A muted, percussive hit with the middle finger Using the thumb to slap an open string Hammer the note using a finger on the left hand (use whatever finger makes the most sense for the line) Use a finger on the left hand to pull off one note & make another note sound.. eliminating the need to pluck.

    Before we get going, let me give you some examples of good hand positioning (as well as a visual aid to reference when working through the grooves and rudiments later in the book)
