Floods in Thailand

Due to heavy rains, Ayutthaya faced severe floods in decades. The floods, which began in late July and were fed by unusually heavy monsoon rains and a string of tropical storms, have killed 381 people and affected more than a third of the country's provinces.

Seven industrial estates in Thailand are submerged under water. Floods have a drastic effect on Thailands economy. Economic growth forecasts have been slashed by the government. The fact is that rebuilding would need billions of dollars and months for the manufacturing operations to run again.

The country's worst flooding in half a century since mid-July has disrupted the lives of nearly 2.5 million people.

High floodwaters swamped Bangkoks second airport Don Mueang causing the commercial flights to ground. Flood relief operation center that was based at the airport had to reestablish after evacuation was ordered.
