    CONFERENCE PROPOSAL SALINE AGRICULTURE IN ARID ENVIRONMENT: THE SOUTH PUNJAB SCENARIO April 9-10, 2012 at IUB

    Pakistan a potential bread basket of the world is endowed by nature with large arable landmass of about 32 million hectares, only half of which is irrigated. Water scarcity and salinity are the major constraints of Pakistan agriculture. About 6.8 million hectares of land is reported to be affected by varying degrees of salinity and /or sodicity. Southern Punjab; Divisions of Bahawalpur, Multan and Dear Ghazi Khan is at bad hit of salinity. Govt. of the Punjab Agriculture Department has initiated a project to convene research and development activities on the issue by establishing Soil Salinity Research Station, Rahim Yar Khan. Sharing of knowledge and dissemination of developed technologies is mandate of the project. Pakistan Agricultural Scientists Forum (PAS-Forum), publisher of an impact factor Journal The JAPS is a progressive scientific society which fosters the transfer of knowledge to make Pakistan agriculture sustainable. Soil Salinity Research Station, Rahim Yar Khan and PAS-Forum have joined hands to hold a national conference on Saline Agriculture to fight hunger in Southern Punjab April 9-10, 2012 at Islamia University Bahawalpur. The proposal has been discussed with Dr. Moazzam Jamil, Principal University College of Agriculture & Environmental Sciences, Bahawalpur. The organizers request your good honor to extend University facilities / as a prestigious partner of the event and host the conference. A large number of scientists, field officers, and faculty and post graduate students from various universities will attend. The SSRS, Rahim Yar Khan and PAS Forum will bear the financial responsibilities. Details will be worked-out if we got your approval. With Regards,
