Dear Parents,

Our next reporting period is fast approaching. On Monday, March 26th and Tuesday, March 27th grade five students will be having student-led conferences (celebration of learning). Your child will have prepared extensively for their 40 minute conference by writing his/her own report card covering all the areas of the curriculum - Personal Profile, Language Arts, Math and IPC. They will focus on what they have been working on, what they do well and what they need to work on. They are also writing goals for next term. All this work is meant to help them take responsibility for their learning.

Students, parents and of course the teacher have important roles in this process. Students responsibilities: Analyze their work ethic and attitude Analyze their academic progress Write their own report card Guide you through their report card and their work. Model a math concept by teaching you a math game or through hands on learning.

Parent responsibilities: Listen Ask questions

Tell your child what you are proud of Tell your child a wish you have for them

Teacher responsibilities Prepare children for conference Meet with families to answer questions

Please note that in order to make the conference less stressful and nerve racking for your child, we have organized them so that three families will be having conferences at one time. This will also create a similar atmosphere to what it is like in a regular grade 5 class. If after you have had your conference you still feel that you need more time with me, please feel free to make an appointment.

Your child will be able to answer most of your questions regarding the student-led conferences; however, if you have concerns please get in touch with me.

Sincerely,

Sten Coppin
