USS Maddox is attacked by North Vietnamese U-Boats after 6 months of covert US naval operations Gulf of Tonkin Resolution Congress and the Senate authorized LBJ to take all necessary measures to repel any armed attack against forces of the Unites States to prevent further aggression. Passed unanimously in Congress and 82-2 in the Senate
February 1965, bombing operations, called Operation Rolling Thunder began and continued for the next three years
from World War I & II, along with veterans from the Korean war stage protests in New York City.

North Vietnamese and Vietcong forces sweep through South Vietnam including the capital, Saigon. Turns out to be a huge defeat for Communists, but a huge win politically and psychologically. US military assessment of the war is questioned and end seems far off
