Focus Question ??
What do I want to learn? Why are we learning about this?
These are not yes/no questions!

What is the problem?

What is the big idea?

e.g.) What is the difference between a rock and a mineral?

Prediction
I think that ___________________ because____________________

What do the students think will happen, what will they see, what do they think is possible?
This is a statement based on events or evidence from their past experiences.

Planning
List Drawing Paragraphs Flowcharts

What materials are needed? What are the steps (in order) of your experiment? How will you keep your data organized?

Observation
Data Graphs Charts Drawings/Diagrams Illustrations

There should be a lot of detail here. Labeling, measurements, patterns will be accurate and documented. Foldables and visually interesting templates are great here!

Claims and Evidence

Evidence-based explanations to develop a deeper conceptual understanding. Claim I claim that..

Evidence I know this because..

This isnt a summary of what the students did in the experiment, but what they learned from the investigation. Key terms and vocabulary will be used properly. Key details will support their thinking.

Conclusion
How well did the student make sense out of the investigation? Today, I learned that. I know this because Was there a pattern or relationship revealed in the investigation?

Reflection
What is the next step? Are there any new questions?

I wonder..

Could there be a follow up investigation? Could you do something differently? What are you still curious about?
