ANNEALING:

1. When we cut, file or forge metal it becomes WORK HARDENED. 2. If we try to bend work hardened metal we will cause damage. 3. 4. To return the metal to its soft state we ANNEAL Heat the ENTIRE piece of metal to 650C.

5. Sterling Silver will glow a dull PURPLE colour when this temperature is reached. 6. Use INSULATED tweezers to lower

the metal into COLD WATER. 7. Next, use PLASTIC or BRASS tweezers to very carefully lower the metal into the SAFETY PICKLE 8. Once the Cupric Oxides have been removed we lift the metal out, rinse with cold water and dry. 9. It is then possible to forge the metal.

This process will need to be repeated as many times as necessary.
