Fuselage

Introduction The fuselage is the main body section of an aircraft. It serves to position control and stabilization required for aircraft stability and maneuverability. Produced widely in size, shape and style depending on the purpose. They provide structural framework for the wings, tails and other features of an aircraft. Early fuselages are made of wood and fabric. Nowadays, carbon fiber reinforced-plastics are widely used in producing fuselages.

Mechanical properties Carbon fiber reinforced-plastic (CFRP) is a very strong and light fiber-reinforced polymer which contains carbon fiber. This type of composite is alkali resistance and has low thermal conductivity. CFRP are produced in rolls of very long length which means very few joints. They also possess high ultimate strain that offer ductility to the structure.

Advantages of CFRP Used in many applications. High rigidity. High strength. Low density. Corrosion resistance. Low temperature expansion. Constructible characteristics. Low maintenance cost.

Disadvantages of CFRP High in cost.
