Math
We continued our unit on measurement this week. We will be wrapping up and starting a new unit on fractions next week! If you get a chance this weekend, start talking about 1/2 and 1/4 to help your kiddos develop some schema about fractions.

Reading
This week we have started to discover non-fiction text features such as table of contents, index, glossary, labels, and captions. We have discussed the purpose of these features and looked for them in our Read To Self books. Our awesome librarian, Mrs. Bowman, helped our students find non-fiction

WRITING
We are working very hard on writing our very own non-fiction books. Using our library books, we are doing research, taking notes, and writing rough drafts in our own words. These published books will have many helpful non-fiction features to help our readers find important and interesting information!

Our Cans for Cash bin is looking a little bare. Lets put Ponderosa on the map and raise a truckload of money to support a charity, cause or country still to be determined. If you have cans you are saving, please CRUSH THEM and then send them into school in a garbage bag. Thanks so much! LETS GO PANDAS!!!

Social Studies
This week on Project Day (Thursday), the first graders picked out some recyclable items and RE-USED them to make some spectacular art projects and some functional items. They had a blast using their imaginations to create something new out of something old!

HEALTH AND WELLNESS


Thanks so much for your support with our SCHOOLS ON THE MOVE challenge! We had great participation, which tells us that our kids are working hard to be healthy.
