Summer Archaeological Excavation for Students at Ostia Antica, the Port of Ancient Rome (4 Units of Credit -- June 18 to July 27, 2012)

There are no prerequisites, and no prior experience in archaeology or knowledge of Italian is required, only a desire to excavate and to learn about Roman civilization and material culture. Students will be housed in Rome during the period of the excavation. This six week course will include one intensive week of study about the monuments of Rome, as well as about field archaeological methodology and practice, and five weeks of excavating at Ostia, the ancient port of Rome. On two or three day weekends students will also be able to explore Rome, its environs, or other nearby Italian cities. Registration for USC Summer Session required.
