Designer I
Job Title: Designer I Reports To: Studio Lead Designer
Basic Scope/Purpose:

When presented with an element the role of a Designer is to understand the parameters and relationships and to arrive at a design solution that is up to the standards set forth by Tait Towers, cost effective and efficient. Their role is also to be involved in the planning of their daily work so that each day they are working toward achieving their design milestones and deadlines.
Education and Experience: It is preferred if the person filling the position has at least a 4 year design, theatrical, or engineering degree. An internship or work experience in a fast paced environment is also preferred. Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

AutoCAD required, Inventor preferred Problem solving skills necessary Knowledge of mechanical systems preferred (electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic) Self-motivated and quick Strong organizational skills

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Take rough models, ideas, sketches, and/or concepts and become familiar with the job Identify and insert any and all known items required for the job If not already done, study different concepts or approaches to fulfill the design of the job If not already done, determine a design direction o Keep the timeframe in mind o Keep the budget and cost in mind Begin to flesh out the concept by continuing to add detail Manage the job in terms of file/folder structure o Always keep an updated master, simple, and exploded drawing file in the root job folder o Manage and keep back-saves of all progress o Ensure jobs are broken into appropriate sub-assemblies During the design process check for mistakes, crashes, and the functionality of the concept When designing items, focus on the 20% of the design that will get production 80% of their work Identify which parts of the design we can commit to and begin releasing to production o Feed completed work to detailers and manage their progress until the job is complete Person shows potential in attacking problems and coming up with solutions
