- Commenting, on the UN Security Council's statement on Syria, Ban Ki-moon, the UN Secretary-General, says "I'm encouraged by the Security Council called for an immediate end to all violence". (The London-based Al-Hayat, Al-Jazeera) - Turkey calls for meeting for the Syrian opposition early next week. (Al-Jazeera) - The Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan expresses great expectations about "Friends of Syria" conference. He says that his country might consider establishing a buffer zone inside Syria to protect the civilian refugees. (Al-Jazeera) - the Chinese permanent representative to the UN praises the Security Council statement, describing it as positive step towards a political settlement of the Syrian crisis. He calls on Damascus to immediately stop violence. (The London-based Al-Hayat, AlJazeera, Russia Today) - The Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov announces full support for the UN-Arab envoy Kofi Annan, adding that he keeps in contact with him. (The Syrian Al-Ba'ath) - In a sharp criticism of Al-Assad, the Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs says, We believe that the Syrian leadership responded incorrectly to the very first manifestations of the peaceful protests. The Syrian regime commits a lot of mistakes. If AlAssad's regime fell, some regional countries will exercises great pressures for the establishment of a Sunni regime in Syria.
