The word “essay” comes from a French word “essai”,
which means “to try”. So, typically, in an persuasive essay, your job is to try to convince someone that your idea, or argument, is the best idea.
However, Master Yoda said, “Do or do not, there is
no try.” What this means is that YOU WILL do more than try to convince the person who will read your essay – your audience – YOU WILL CONVINCE THEM. How? You will do it by using strong reasoning and detail to support your belief.
All essays have a simple form:
Tell me what you want to tell me -
YOUR IDEA/ YOUR ARGUMENT/ INTRODUCTION/ MAIN IDEA
Tell me - SUPPORT
Tell me – SUPPORT
Tell me – SUPPORT
Do, or do Tell me what you told me – CONCLUSION
not. There is no try.
So, What is that you want to tell me?
YOUR BELIEF:
SUPPORT (include SUPPORT (include SUPPORT (include
facts and details) facts and details) facts and details)
