State Delays Massive Construction Project in the Village

BIG BEAR LAKE, CA The City of Big Bear Lake is in limbo as the State, once again, helps delay what would have been one of the largest, most comprehensive reconstruction projects in the Citys history. In the final hour before construction on the Village Renaissance Streetscape Project could begin, the State has notified us of an intent to challenge the Citys use of Improvement Agency funding and projects. This means we may not be able to start construction quite yet. Though we are optimistic about resolving the situation as soon as possible, here are some facts: In contrast to State deliberations, we have maximized the public process to fully inform our citizens, businesses and State officials of our plans and funding priorities.

We have thoroughly complied with every request the State has made along the way in regards to the wind down of the Agency.

Many times we have provided reports to officials at the State of California, just to suddenly have the State engage us in delayed reviews. We promise to keep our community informed as things progress. We also want to express our appreciation for the patience and support of our primary contractor, Matich Corporation. They have proven to be an excellent partner and share in our goal to not only improve our Village area, but our entire resort community that both residents and visitors enjoy yearround. It is our hope their good works will be enjoyed by all very soon!
The City of Big Bear Lake is a four-season resort located in the heart of the San Bernardino National Forest, approximately 30 miles northeast of San Bernardino. The City serves a population of 6,500 residents and covers a 6.95 square mile area on the west end of Big Bear Lakes south shore. Recreation is offered year-round, including skiing, boating, fishing, camping, hiking, golf and fine dining. Visit us at www.citybigbearlake.com. # # #
