Task 5

How did you attract/address your audience?

Our research we concluded that our target audience would be in fact, educated males aged 25 onwards mainly, although there would definitely be a female audience as well- as anyone that appreciates the film noir genre would appreciate our film. From this we can explore how we addressed out target audience in our finished product

For the male audience we used a female character that is very attractive so on one hand is kicking conventions of the typical damsel in distress character but on the other hand she has been chosen as this actress because of her looks and makes the film appealing therefore attracting a male audience wanting to see her.

The violence in the piece creates excitement and would attract more of a male audience stereotypically, but as it is not gory and obvious in some cases (like the end scene when the man just picks up a gun and a crowbar) it is still relatable to females.

The music is more classical and therefore would not be appreciated by a younger audience but I think a older demographic would appreciate the traditional music builds the tension in a more effective way relating to our piece.

By changing our film into black and white, it attracts a whole new audience onto our film. It not only creates a level of novelty as black and white movies are not seen made a lot in the 21st century. It also attracts enthusiasts that appreciates a homage to 50s cinema. This can attract a vast audience but as a generalization would be more appealing to middle aged intelligent film lovers.
