MinnesotaCare
What?
MinnesotaCare provides health care coverage to Minnesotans who do not have access to other affordable health care options, including Medical Assistance. On March 1, 2011, the guidelines for qualifying for MA were expanded. With these changes, some MinnesotaCare enrollees became eligible for MA and were transferred to MA. One advantage of MA over MinnesotaCare is that MA enrollees do not have to pay a monthly premium. Before you apply for MinnesotaCare, apply for MA. If you are not eligible for MA, then MinnesotaCare is a good option.

Who?
Uninsured working Minnesotans whose employers do not offer to pay half or more of their monthly medical insurance cost may be eligible for MinnesotaCare. Before you can apply for MinnesotaCare, you must be uninsured for four months. There can be exceptions to this four month wait for children. To find out if you are eligible, apply for MinnesotaCare.

How?
Once approved for MinnesotaCare, most people pay a monthly premium. The amount of the premium is either sliding scale based on family size and income. There are exceptions to this. To determine your monthly premium, you will need to fill out a MinnesotaCare application.
