Integrated Search and Rescue Underway for Possible Missing Persons

File # 2012-409 2012-03-30 09:00 PDT The Tofino RCMP are seeking the public's assistance with an event that happened on Thursday March 29th, 2012 at about 7:00pm at Cox Bay near Tofino. The Tofino RCMP received a report shortly after from a concerned citizen who stated she witnessed two individuals being swept off the rocks on Sunset Point by a large wave crashing on top of them. Sunset point is located on the North end of Cox Bay Beach in the District of Tofino. An extensive search is still currently underway and has been since the call was received last night. The Tofino RCMP, West Coast Search and Rescue, Ucluelet RCMP,442 Squadron CFB Comox, and the Canadian Coast Guard are involved. "We have yet to confirm that anyone was swept away nor have we received any reports of a Missing couple or person. The hotels in the area are conducting a guest count and we urge anyone who has information to step forward." states Cst. Sascha Banks. The Tofino RCMP are asking for the public's assistance for any witnesses or anyone who was involved in this incident to please contact the detachment at 250-725-3242 or your attend to your closest RCMP detachment.
