The Greek Economic Crisis

EC3102: Assignment (Semester 2, AY2011-12)


[Important: This assignment is worth 10% in your nal grade] Due Date: 2 April 2012 (M onday), in class You have been hired by the Greek government as a consultant to advise them on economic policy in the face of their current economic crisis. Your assignment is to prepare a 1000word (excluding tables, gures and references) report for the government. The report should contain the following. 1. Identication of the problems and their causes: You should clearly describe the main economic problems facing the country and try to provide economic, political and social reasons behind the problems. Try to be objective and provide them with numbers, where possible. 2. A suggested policy package: Here you should give clear policy prescriptions to the government. It would help the government more if your suggestions are quantitative in nature. 3. Potential benets and pitfalls of your policy recommendations: Make a convincing case for the potential benets of your recommended policies. Also acknowledge that some of your policies may not be politically or socially very desirable. You should try to relate, as much as possible, the analysis and recommendations in your report to what you have learnt in EC3102. You should be evaluated on the basis of the following criteria: contents; organization; language and overall impression of your report. You should work in groups of two. If you cannot nd a partner, you may work alone. Groups of three are not allowed. If you work in a group, you will hand in a single assignment and both members of the group will get the same marks. Please choose your partner carefully. Both partners are supposed to contribute 50% to the assignment. Type the assignment in MS Word or a similar package. The font type should be New Times Roman and font size should be 12. Text should be double spaced. Please print on both sides of the paper to save trees. You will hand in a hard copy of the assignment on the 2nd of April 2012 in class.
