4. (a) Find the equation of the tangent to the curve x = 2t + 1, y = t3 4, z = t2 at the point (3, 3, 1). (b) Let f (x, y, z) = xy 2 z 3 . Find the directional derivative of f at the point (1, 2, 1) in the direction (1, 1, 3). (c) Find the equation of the tangent plane to the surface x2 + xy + 4y 2 2z 2 = 17 at the point (1, 2, 1). [15 marks]

5. Locate and determine the nature of the stationary point of the function f (x, y) = 2x2 5y + y 5 . [10 marks]

6. (a) Evaluate
