NATIONAL LAW UNIVERSITY CENTRE FOR LEGAL AID & SUPPORT SERVICES- NAGAUR CAMP

National Law Universitys Centre for Legal Aid & Support Services is a body whose aim is to contribute to the society; to the same society which has contributed in our development as students and professionals of Law. Keeping this philosophy in mind and with the agenda of practical implementation the Centre for Legal Aid & Support Services, NLU Jodhpur organized a Legal Awareness Camp in the Sainik Sansthan Maidan, Nagaur on 17th September, 2011. Nagaur is a district 135 kms from Jodhpur. The camp was organized under the leadership of Mr Anish Agarwal, Convenor and Ms Rukmani Seth, Co-Convenor of the Center under the guidance of Professor V. Seshaiah Shasthri, Director, Centre for Legal Aid and Support Services. The camp was hosted with the objective to impart free legal aid with the help of NLU alumni Mr Trideep Bhandari and Mrs Nimisha Bhandari, Jodhpur High Court who not only guided the visitors regarding the legal process but also solved some of their legal problems. The topics discussed among the audience were contemporary issues such as the Lokpal Bill, Dowry Prohibition, Domestic Violence, MGNREGA, Child Marriage, Child Labour & Discrimination Against Girl Child, Right to Education, Adult Education, Criminal Trial Procedure, Rights of Under trials, Unique Identification, Right to Information, Eve Teasing, Alcoholism and Drug Abuse. Awareness was imparted by skits and speeches by volunteers through a two hour program. One delegation of students also went for a prison visit for making the under trails aware of the procedure of law followed for the same. Students also performed a skit in the Jail premises addressing the under trails. The visit was organized with the assistance of the District Collector. The camp was a success by virtue of the enthusiastic participation of the locals and various school & college students.
