Mrs. Patsavas Classroom Newsletter

Dear Parents, I hope that everyone enjoyed their Spring Break! Yesterday was the beginning of one of the holiest weeks of the year, Holy Week. We will have many activities and learn more about this important week. In Religion, we will read about all of the events of Holy Week, starting with Palm Sunday. We will read from our Childrens Bible daily, make Easter cards for others, decorate crosses and watch a video on the meaning of Easter. In Math, we will cover designs using tangrams, identify the largest and smallest shapes, cover half a shape and pay for items using pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters. We will also identify and match equivalent sets and identify doubles. We completed Unit 9 in Superkids before break, so we will spend Monday reviewing Units 8 and 9. On Tuesday we will complete a progress test on Units 8 and 9. On Wednesday and Thursday we will work on Unit 10. In this unit we will begin by studying the letters Xx and Yy. We will blend sounds to decode words, learn new vocabulary, form the letters Xx and Yy, use correct spacing and punctuation in sentences and listen for details in a song. We began to learn about quotation marks before spring break. We will practice writing them this week and identify punctuation in dialogue sentences. This is a difficult concept and we will spend much time on it. In Science we will begin to study force and how it affects objects. In Social Studies we will continue to study our country. Have a blessed Holy Week, Mrs. Patsavas

The Walk-a-thon Sponsor Envelopes will go home this Wednesday. Look for them in your home/school envelope. The Pizza Hut reading logs were due today. Please make sure that they are returned. This was our last month for the reading logs. There will not be school this Friday, April 6th (Good Friday) or Monday, April 9 (Easter Monday). Save the date: Grandparents Day will be April 27th from 9:30am until 11:00am. All Grandparents are invited! Homework is going home tonight. Please make sure it is completed and returned by Thursday. Thank you! Parent Tip of the Week: To help your child practice reading, try writing them short notes and leaving them in various places around the house or in their lunchbox. They will enjoy discovering the notes and reading them aloud!
