Materials requirements planning (MRP) is the logic for determining the number of parts, components, and/or materials needed to produce a product. MRP is a software system. MRP provides time scheduling information specifying when each of the materials, parts, and components should be ordered or produced. Dependent demand drives MRP.
This lays out a detailed schedule of the- Required minimum start and completion dates, - With quantities, for each step of the Routing and - Bill Of Material required to satisfy the demand from the Master Production Schedule (MPS).
This lays out both the dates that the purchased items should be received into the facility & The dates that the Purchase orders, or Blanket Order Release should occur to match the production schedules. Ex- Bills of materials & the lead time
Planned Orders schedule indicating the amount and timing of future orders (date of completing order) Order Releases Authorization for the execution of planned orders (Actual expected date of completion) Changes revisions of due dates or order quantities, or cancellation of orders
Performance-control reports Evaluation of system operation, including deviations from plans and cost information. Planning reports Data useful for assessing future material requirements. Exception Reports Data on major discrepancies encountered.
