Have a go at these questions. Follow the plan I have given you so that your study workload will not be too much. 1) A search helicopter flies 300km due east from its base then 400km due south. The complete journey takes 5 hours. Find the helicopter`s a) Displacement from its base. b) Average speed c) Average velocity 3) A car travelling at a velocity of 12ms-1 accelerates at 3ms-2 for a distance of 200m. Calculate the velocity of the car at the end of the 200m 2) A student measures the acceleration of gravity. She records the following results in ms-2 9.72, 9.83, 10.52, 9.67 and 9.82 Calculate a) The mean value of the acceleration b) The random error in the measurements

5) An aerosol can has an internal pressure of 200kPa at a temperature of 20C. Find the internal pressure when the temperature is raised to 75C

Draw the corresponding velocity time graph for the moving object`s acceleration. 7) Using the kinetic model of gases explain what happens to the pressure of a gas inside a sealed container if the gas is heated and its temperature increases.

6) Find the time it takes for a sandwich to fall to the ground from the Leaning Tower of Pisa which is 55 metres high. Assume no air resistance 8) A motion sensor draws a graph from the data of a cart that accelerates from rest at 4ms-2 for 2 seconds and then its acceleration changes to -2ms-2 for 2 seconds a) Sketch the velocity time graph of the cart for the four seconds of its journey. b) Find the displacement of the cart after its 4 second journey.

14) A container full of air has a mass of 370.58g. Some of the air is squeezed out of the container into an upturned flask. The volume of squeezed out air equals 1687cm3. The mass of the container is measured again and found to have a mass of 368.72g. Calculate the density of the air in g/cm3.

15) A battery has an emf of 12 volts and an internal resistance of 1.5 ohms. a) Explain what is meant by an emf of 12 V b) Find the short circuit current which would flow if the terminals of the battery were connected by a piece of copper wire.

20) An AC supply is connected to an oscilloscope. The settings for the volts/division and the time base are shown on the controls. a) Find the peak voltage of the AC supply. b) Find the rms voltage of the AC supply c) Show that the frequency of the AC supply is 50 Hz.

21) A laser beam is passed through a diffraction grating which has 500 lines per millimetre. A second order maximum fringe is found at an angle of 41O from the central maximum.

26) The graph shows the force which acted on an object of mass 2kg over a time of 4 seconds. Find the average force given to the object.

27) An electron of charge 1.67 x 10-19C passes through a potential difference of 6kV before it hits a radar screen. a) Calculate the kinetic energy of the electron just before it strikes the screen. b) If the mass of the electron is 9.11 x 10-31kg find its speed just before it strikes the screen.

Tips
Set aside a half hour each day. Have your notebooks there to revise and look up how to do the questions. Be prepared to write down which questions you want Mr Mallon to go over. Use my website www.helpmyphysics.co.uk or Edmodo to ask if you are stuck. Answers and some selected solutions will be published on the website/blog. This fortnight is vital to use your time wisely. This is the time when you can win your Higher Physics pass. Dont study for long periods. Break up the day with the rest of your subjects taking regular breaks and adding rewards to yourself if you finish tasks. Best of luck from Mr Mallon.
