Nursing Considerations and Teaching

Side effects: CNS-Fatigue, weakness, anxiety, depression, dizziness, drowsiness, insomnia, memory loss, metal status changes, nervousness, nightmares. CV: orthostatic hypotension, peripheral vasoconstriction, bradycardia, heart failure, pulmonary edema. Blurred vision, stuffy nose GI: nausea, vomiting, constipation, diarrhea, flatulence, gastric pain, heartburn, dry moth. Metabolic-hyperglycemia, hypoglycemia Respiratory- Wheezing, bronchospasm Musculoskeletal- joint pain, back pain Skin-rash

Nursing considerations: Through cardio assessment. Making sure that medicine is not stopped suddenly after long term therapy. Renal and thyroid function tests. Medicine should be given with food. Patient teaching: Medicine has to be taken whole and shouldnt be crushed. This medication should not be stopped suddenly. Watch for side effects such as dizziness, drowsiness, light-headedness, blurred vision, sexual incompetence. Report difficulty breathing, night cough, swelling of extremities, slow pulse, confusion or depression.
