The Delaware Canal Festival Decorated Duck Contest and Critter Race

Dont let your racing duck be a Plain Jane or Joe! This year a Decorated Duck Contest will be part of the Delaware Canal Festival. Take your racing rubber ducks home and be creative. Permanent markers are great to use, but anything goes as long as your duck can float upright when it enters the water for the Great Delaware Canal Critter Race. And, of course, no mechanical propulsion is allowed. As soon as your duck is done, bring it to Customers Bank, 1 South Main Street in Yardley. The decorated ducks will be displayed in the banks big streetside show window. On the day of the Festival, the ducks will be moved to an exhibit along the towpath, and then taken to the Letchworth Avenue Bridge for the Critter Race. Cash prizes will be awarded to the ten most creative ducks.

Decorated ducks and plain yellow ducks are all invited to enter the Great Delaware Canal Critter Race.

RACING CRITTER TRAINING TIPS

Your duck needs to be in tip-top shape by Saturday, June 23th. At 2 p.m. on that day, ducks will plunge into the water at the Letchworth Avenue Bridge and float to the finish line at Lock 5. To get your duck into fine floating fettle 1. Give him a great name so that you can cheer him on. 2. Start his training in your kitchen sink. All ducks dont take to floating naturally, so starting in a small pond is good. Beware of oil slicks and dish detergent bubbles. 3. Then move on to the bathtub the big time. 4. Just before the race, a good pep talk does wonders. 5. Last call for ducks, decorated or not, will be at 1 p.m. on the day of the Festival. All ducks will have to be in the container by the Afton Avenue bridge at the time in order to compete in the Race.

Good luck and have fun decorating and training your special, speedy duck!
