LAB 2 Automated Installation of SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop

Introduction
The purpose of this lab is to automate the installation of SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop on a virtual machine and perform tasks that will result in a successful installation.

Procedures/Steps
To carry out the procedures of the lab, the user would need to clone Open SUSE on their virtual machine. This way, if any issue takes place, the original installation would not get affected. Step 1: On your Clone Open SUSE desktop, go to Applications+ System Tools + YaST. It will then ask you to enter the root password. Shown in Figure 1 is the YaST page.

Figure 1: YaST Step 2: Go to Software Management and in the find bar, key in autoyast2. Place a checkmark on autoyast2 and then click Apply as shown in Figure 2 below.

Figure 2: Software Manager Page Step 3: Go back to Administrator Settings, then scroll down to Miscellaneous and click on AutoInstalltion. The Auto Installation page appears as shown in Figure 3.

Figure 3: AutoInstallation Page Step 4: At the AutoInstallation page, go to Tools + Create Reference Profile, select Additional Resources and click Create as shown in Figure 4.

Figure 4- Create a Reference Control File Step 5: Go to File + Save As and in the Name box, key in autoyast.xml and click Save, as shown in Figure 5 below.

Figure 5- Save as autoyast.xml Step 6: Copy the configuration file to a USB as shown in Figure 6 below.

Figure 6- USB drive Step 7: Boot the virtual machine with the ISO image in the virtual cd and point the autoyast to locate the configuration file as shown in Figure 7 below.

Conclusion In conclusion, the lab were met with no errors and the automatic installation of SUSE Linux Enterpise Desktop was successful.
