Y6 Literature Planning
Students will cover a variety of skills using a combination of reading, writing and spoken language. A wide range of strategies to understand, appreciate, and respond to a variety of written works will be applied throughout the year.
Students will be able to . . Distinguish among different types of literature such as short story, novel, drama, poetry, and nonfiction. Understand how plot, conflict, resolution, character, setting, theme, and point of view work within a piece of fiction. Distinguish between fact and opinion. Make inferences that can be supported by a characters thoughts, words, actions, or the narrators description. Identify and explain idioms, analogies (comparisons), metaphors (implied comparisons), similes (comparisons using like or as) and hyperboles (exaggerations). Increase silent reading speed. Improve pronunciation and intonation when reading aloud.
