Obesity is a growing problem in the United States that affects every aspect of Nursing. This problem is an epidemic according to the World Health Organization (WHO)(2003)
Causes
of obesity include genetics and environment Studies have shown there is a link between chromosomes and obesity, including control of hunger, energy use, and fat content (ORahilly and Farooqi 2006)
Obesity
is generally defined as a Body Mass Index (BMI) greater than 30 (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2011) It is also possible to measure fat content as well Obesity can affect almost every system in the body, especially the heart
