The Military Situation

- The Syrian National Council (SNC) asks the UN to ensure international protection for the Syrian people and arm the Free Syrian Army (FSA) through considering a number of alternatives in case the peace plan put forward by the UN-Arab envoy to - Rami Abdel Rahman, director of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said Al-Assad's forces violated the ceasefire anew and bombarded Homs. He added that Homs's Al-Khalidiya district is bombed by a rate of three shells a minute. The shelling coincided with the hovering of the warplanes over the district.(1)(7)(8)(10)(12)(13) - Artillery shelling targeted the Homs neighborhoods of, Jouret Al-Shaiah, Al-Qosou, Deir Balaba, Al-Qrabis, Al-Waar, Jobar and Al-Sultaniya.(9)(1)(5) - Violent clashes erupted Saturday midnight between the government forces and the Free Syrian Army (FSA) near a political security department in the Aleppo city of Al-Bab.(4)(8)(5)(9)(10) - Some seven soldiers of Al-Assad's forces were publicly executed in the Daraa district of Jasim.(9) - Al-Assad's troops bombard different areas in Douma, Homs and Idlib, besiege Hama's Khattab city and storm Boqrous city in Deir Az Zour.(9)(5) Syria Kofi Annan failed due to the continuous violations committed by the Syrian regime.(1) - Marah Al-Boqaay, member of the Syrian National Council (SNC), says "The SNC would be ready to submit a request to the UN General Assembly for international protection in case the Syrian regime did not implement Annan's plan." (1) - The Muslim Brotherhood group in Syria condemns the repeated violations of the ceasefire, during which about 60 people were martyred in the first three days. The group announces that it agrees on Annan's plan and welcomes the UN Security Council's decision to send monitors to Syria.(1)

The Political Mobility


- Ahmed Ramadan, member of the Syrian National Council (SNC), voiced doubts about the success of the international monitors, expressing his belief that the Syrian regime will act to undermine their mission and that it has established a special body with the aim of obstructing the monitors' work, keeping an eye on them and following up their conversations with the Syrian citizens. The regime also assigned a number of plain-clothes intelligent elements to accompany and drive the monitor's cars.(1)

The Internal Situation


- Brigadier General Mustafa Sheikh, a major Syrian defector officer says "The Syrian regime knows well that if it stopped military offensive, it would not be supported by the Syrian people, so it relentlessly continues its war. All the Syrian regime's military violations are photographed by satellites."

and says "You can not stand idle while the Syrian people is being killed."(1) - The Arab Ministerial Committee on Syria meets in the Qatari capital of Doha amid participation by representatives of Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, Sudan, Algeria, Iraq and Kuwait.(1)

International
- An initial team of six UN ceasefire monitors arrived in Syria on Sunday evening and started their mission today in an effort to keep the peace plan on track. Another 24 monitors will follow, the spokesman for international mediator Kofi Annan said.(1)(7)

- Abdel Razzaq Yousef, member of the Syrian parliament for Idlib, announced his defection from the Syrian regime, calling on "Those who occupy a high position or assume authority in that country to hasten to defect and join the revolution before it is too late."(1)

Political Stances Syria


- The Syrian regime accuses the 'armed terrorist groups" of intensifying their attacks. A regime security source was quoted as saying (Security forces), based on their duty to protect civilians and the country, will stop terrorist groups from continuing their criminals acts and the killing of civilians.(1)(7)(8)(9)

- The US Ambassador to the UN Security Council Susan Rice said, This resumed violence, especially the shelling of Homs, casts serious doubts yet again on the Syrian regime's commitment to a cessation of violence.(8) - UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon expressed "grave concern" over the Syrian forces shelling the city of Homs in a new violation of the ceasefire declared last Thursday. Ki-moon urges the Syrian regime to comply with the ceasefire.(3)(8)(13) - Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan says "We are working actively with Saudi Arabia to stop the massacres committed by Al-Assad's regime and to promote peace in the region."(4)

Arab
- Within the framework of "The International Campaign in Support of the Syrian People"( support), massive demonstrations were staged in Tripoli, north Lebanon, in support of the revolution of the Syrian people and the Free Syrian Army (FSA). The demonstrations were meant to send two messages: the first is directed to the Syrian people and says "We are with you", and the second is directed to the Arab and international community
