Formal Research Proposal Formal Research Proposal

The topic I am researching for my independent research proposal is music and its affects on the growth and development of the human brain and its anatomy. I will be gaining further insight and knowledge of the brain and the affects that music have on it. The topic of creativity and the brain is broad and still very new. There are many potential treatments for brain-related disabilities through music therapy. This relates to society in that music therapy would provide a treatment that doesnt have to involve invasive treatment or medication.

My proposed research question is: Does music contribute to the growth and development of the Brain? And if so, what positive (or negative) affects takes toll, and what implications do those affects have on the advancement of treatments for disorders of the Brain?

An interesting issue I came by while researching is that babies develop hearing as one of the first senses. Those exposed to music pre-natal are less likely to develop depression and Alzheimers disease later on in life. Though this phenomena is yet to be explained, it proves that exposure to music is closely linked to the growth and development of the brain.

Another fascinating matter that was sighted while reading is that while conducting memory tests with Alzheimers patients, its been found while memory in other aspects is worse than healthy subjects, the musical memory of the patients is the same. This confirms the belief that again music a close link and a enthralling subject of the brain.
