Welcome to the 2012 AAU Inter-District Super Hoops Tournament hosted by Competitive Hoops! We hope that your time with us will be enjoyable and rewarding for you and your players. We want nothing more than to have every player get the opportunity to PLAY BASKETBALL and HAVE FUN!!! Be sure to read all the materials in this packet and make the appropriate copies of the included information and forms. If you need any assistance, do not hesitate to call on the host tournament team: Tournament Coordinator Erica Hall (770) 6555-7645 ehall2@competitivehoops.com The tentative schedule for Friday, May 4, 2012: Credential check and welcome: 3:00pm 9:00pm First games tentatively set to begin on Friday at 6:00 pm The format for the tournament will be pool play on Friday and Saturday with bracket play starting on either Saturday evening or Sunday morning. The tournament will conclude on Sunday afternoon May 6, 2012. Dont forget that AAU rules will apply during the tournament. Dress code will also be enforced for Coaches and Bench Personnel. Please refer to the AAU Rules Handbook and Code of Ethics. You may also visit www.aausports.org for a copy of these rules. Finally, remember only the 1st place winner in each division will be sponsored to the National AAU Tournament. However, pictures will be taken and awards given to both 1st and 2nd place winner in each division.

Arrivals All teams should report to Comfort Suites, 7846 Stonecrest Square Lithonia GA 30038 on Friday, May 4, 2012 for their scheduled credential check. Teams are responsible for their own accommodations and transportation. Tournament Sites Tournament sites will consist of three (3) locations: Lithonia Middle School, 2451 Randall Avenue Lithonia, GA 30058 Lithonia High School, 2440 Phillips Road, Lithonia GA 30058 & Lucious Sanders Recreation Center, 2484 Bruce Street Lithonia GA 30058.

Accommodations For all hotel accommodations and special rates and reservations, please contact: Comfort Suites (678) 325-4830 (code for group rate: competitive hoops) Credentials All teams and bench personnel must be credentialed and check-in on Friday, May 4, 2012 in order to participate in the AAU Super Hoops Tournament. The credential check will be held at the Comfort Suites, 7846 Stonecrest Square Lithonia GA 30038 on Friday, May 4, 2012 from 3:00pm and 9:00pm. Please contact Erica Hall at (770) 655-7645 should any issues arise or your team arrives late. Please have the following items with you at credential check-in: 1. AAU Membership Number 2. Birth Certificate (MUST be original or a certified copy) 3. Medical Release form 4. Official Tournament Roster Opening Game The tournament will begin Friday evening at 6:00pm. A schedule will be provided at check-in for game location and times. For teams traveling longer distances, their first game may not begin until Saturday morning unless otherwise advised. Teams are expected to arrive at least 45 minutes before scheduled game times. For any issues, please contact the Event Coordinator. Uniforms Each player on the team shall wear a different basketball number. All teams should have white and dark jerseys. Home team shall wear white. Assistance We want every participant to thoroughly enjoy him/herself during our tournament. If you need any assistance, initially contact your coach immediately and they can rely upon the aid of our tournament coordinator, Erica Hall. Conduct AAU guidelines are the standard for our tournament. Your conduct must be above approach on and off the court. Any misbehavior or misconduct could not only cause your disqualification from the tournament, but may also disqualify your team.

AAU RULES & ELIGIBILITY INFORMATION


A. Sportsmanship It is the obligation of coaches, players, administrators, volunteers, and other representatives of the AAU to practice the highest principles of sportsmanship and to observe the ethics of competition. Good sportsmanship is defined as qualities of behavior, which are characterized by courtesy and genuine concern for others. The display of good sportsmanship is a statement of the individual's understanding and commitment to fair play, ethical behavior and integrity. B. Coaches Ethics The coach must be aware that he can be either a positive or a negative influence upon the development of the athlete. In all of his personal contacts with athletes, officials, parents, the media, and the public, the coach shall strive to set an example of the highest ethical and moral conduct. In keeping with that goal, the following ethical guidelines should be observed by all AAU coaches: 1. The coach shall never place the value of winning above the value of instilling the highest desirable ideals of character. 2. The coach must always consider the personal safety of the athlete. 3. The coach shall be thoroughly acquainted with the rules and regulations of competition, and shall be responsible for their interpretation to team members. The coach shall not try to seek an advantage by circumventing the spirit or letter of the rules 4. Game officials shall have the respect and support of the coach. The coach shall not indulge in conduct which will incite the players or spectators against the officials. Public criticism of the officials or players is unethical. 5. The coach should respect his opponents, display gracious behavior during competition and require his players to conduct themselves in similar fashion. Before and after the contest, rival coaches should meet and exchange friendly greetings to set the correct tone for the event 6. Coaches shall actively use their influence to enhance sportsmanship by spectators. 7. The coach shall take an active role in the prevention of drug, alcohol and tobacco abuse, and shall, under no circumstances authorize their use. 8. The coach must recognize the importance of the athlete's academic development and promote the proper balance between athletic and academic activities. C. Competition Rules The Official Playing Rules will be the National Federation of State High School rules for the current year as modified by the AAU rule book. D. Eligibility i. All player-participants must be current AAU members. ii. All teams must be AAU member teams/clubs in good standing. ii. Players may compete only for the AAU club or organization with which they are attached, as provided by the AAU Code. iii. Registration Requirements: The Host Organization shall be responsible for reviewing the credentials of players and clubs to verify individual registration and club membership status of participants

Player/Team Disqualification All Non-athletes/coaches are responsible to see that their team meets all eligibility requirements. If a player is found to be ineligible prior to the start of a sanctioned competition, the player will be expelled from the competition and the team will continue. If a player is found to be ineligible after the competition has started, the player will be expelled from the competition and the team will forfeit all games in which the ineligible player was listed on the official score sheet. The team may continue to participate, if applicable, without the expelled player. Proof of grade must be available for review, by an AAU designee at all AAU sanctioned competitions, if requested. If said information is not available the team is subject to removal from the competition. Acceptable documents include the following: i. ii. d. i. ii. iv. v. A photocopy of that portion of the athletes report card for the current school year which shows name, grade and school. Confirmation of grade level from a school administrator (guidance counselor, principal, dean, etc.) on school letterhead Proof of age must be available for review, by an AAU designee at all AAU sanctioned competitions, if requested. If said information is not available the team is subject to removal from the competition. Acceptable documents include the following: A photocopy of his certificate of live birth from the State, County or Municipal Bureau of Vital Statistics on the place of birth (HOSPITAL RECORDS NOT ACCEPTED) A photocopy of the delayed registration of birth if the athlete's birth was not recorded on his day of birth, issued by the same governing bodies. An unexpired Passport Valid Drivers License or State issued ID.
